New Book - Good Girls by Amanda Brookfield (Pages 1 - 59)

 First Published: 2019

Eleanor Keating goes to visit her sister Kat after she had a small tumour removed.

The relationship between Eleanor and Kat is not close, and we can tell there is some conflict between them. Kat is married to Howard, who is rich, and they have three children. Eleanor is single and has financial problems. Eleanor's life is not steady, and she is now struggling with her conscience as recently on a night out she ran into her friend Megan's husband, Billy, and they had sex.

Kat tells Eleanor that he has received an email from a common acquaintance, Nick Wharton, who is now living in Cape Town with his family. Eleanor tells Kat that she should reply to his email, and Kat does so.

The book fluctuates between 2013 and the past. In 1992 Eleanor went to Oxford to study English literature, and that is where she met Nick, who was studying medicine. They met at the library, and they hit it off. Eleanor seemed to fall for him. This is interesting because Nick has written to Kat and not Eleanor.

The novel also shows us 1985 when Kat and Eleanor were children and lived with their parents in Broughton after moving from London. Vincent, their father, was a vicar, and at present (2013) he is suffering from dementia and living in a home. Their mother seems to be fickle in her mothering role, and we can see that Eleanor was always wondering what mood her mother would be in that day.

I am curious to know more about these two sisters.
