Queen Victoria 5 (Pages 163 - 279)

 

On 21 November 1840 Queen Victoria had her first child, and she was disappointed to discover that it was a daughter, who she named Victoria, but she was called Vicky.Victoria, Princess Royal  (Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa) was born on 21 November 1840 at Buckingham Palace. When she was born, the doctor exclaimed sadly: "Oh Madame, it's a girl!" The queen replied: "Never mind, next time it will be a prince!"

King William IV died on June 20, 1837, at the age of 71, at Windsor Castle.His cause of death is generally attributed to congestive heart failure, though some sources also mention cirrhosis of the liver and pneumonia.

 The first time that a book by Jane Austen is attempted for publication was when her father approached THomas Cadell with 'First Impressions', but it was refused. Thomas Cadell (1742–1802) was a successful 18th-century English bookseller who published works by some of the most famous writers of the 18th century.
