A Christmas Journey - Facts
The house where Vespasia is staying when the suicide takes place is in Berkshire. Berkshire is in South East England. It is bordered by Oxfordshire to the north, Buckinghamshire to the north-east, Greater London to the east, Surrey to the south-east, Hampshire to the south, and Wiltshire to the west. Reading is the largest settlement and the county town.

In this novella the main character is Lady Vespasia Cumming-Gould, a character who we know as an old lady in Thomas and Charlotte Pitt novels.

Acceptable Loss - Facts
Monk now works for the Thames River Police at Wapping. The Thames River Police was formed in 1800 to tackle theft and looting from ships anchored in the Pool of London and in the lower reaches and docks of the Thames. Its base was (and remains) in Wapping High Street. It has gradually evolved into the Marine Policing Unit.
