The lovely characters in this series return. It is five years after the events of the last book.

The book starts with the prologue in October 1859, and we are introduced to Lucy Harvington, who is in the Crimea, worried about her husband Charlie, not knowing if he will return safe and sound. Lucy admits that this life is very different to the comforts she was used to back in England.
This novel is set on Holy Island in Northumberland, a place with becomes isolated when the tide is out.
Ben O'Keefe is a solicitor;she and her colleague Paul Doherty are asked by an estate agent to examine a desecrated church, which he is going to sell. Paul is not very happy, and after looking around to compare the place with the map Ben has, they find a crypt, and there they find a skeleton wrapped in a carpet.
