Tell No One 2 (Pages 59 - 200)

 SPOILERS!!!

This is a really exciting book, full of action and intrigue. There are two sides that are after Beck: the criminals and the FBI.

The criminals led by Larry Gandle are working for Griffin Scope, a billionaire and businessman. His orders to Larry is to use his thug, Wu, and they will get rid of anybody who they think may be a risk.

The FBI with the agents Nick Carlson and Tom Stone think that Beck killed Elizabeth. In the site where the two male bodies were found, there was a baseball bat with Beck's blood and a key to a safe deposit box. In the box they find photographs in which Elizabeth shows different injuries and bruises on her body. When Beck is asked by these agents, who have a terrible way of addressing him, he tells them that when he was away in Chicago in a conference Elizabeth had a car accident, but she didn't go to a doctor or the hospital because she thought it was not serious. The attitude of the two agents show that they don't believe Beck, so he tells them he needs a lawyer, and Shauna gets her Hester Crimstein, who is known for her scandalous cases.

After Beck goes, he is confused and calls Rebecca, who was Elizabeth's best friend, and then he goes to see her. Elizabeth claimed that the accident happened when she was with Rebecca. However, now Rebecca tells her that there was no accident, and Elizabeth asked her to lie for her. Yet, she doesn't know why. Elizabeth seemed to have led a secret life that nobody knew about. We know that she was a lawyer, specialized in defending children, so maybe she discovered something about Griffin Scope, and that is why he ordered to kill her. But did she die? Maybe her father, who identified, knew that he had to lie to protect her daughter?

Gandle and Wu follow Beck and we know that they know about the emails because they have set spyware on Beck's computers, and they want to know what the second email will lead him to. When the time comes, he keeps having an error message, so he gets desperate. Then when he is walking his dog, he realises that he got the message wrong, so he goes to a public internet café and manages to sort out the cryptic message and access the link. What he is told is to go to Washington Square the next day, and the message finishes with I love you. Beck is convinced that this comes from Elizabeth, and Shauna is wrong. Shauna showed him how a video can be manipulated and appear with a fake image, but this last message proves that there is a possibility that Elizabeth is alive.

That night Gandle and Wu visit Rebecca because they know that Beck went to see her. Rebecca has nothing to tell them, but they kill her. AFter that, the police and FBI discover that Beck went to see her the day before, so they go to his place and find the gun used to kill Rebecca and some latex gloves, which Gandle and Wu planted there. There is a warrant for his arrest. Hester calls him and tells him that he agreed with the district attorney that he will go with them willingly. Beck knows he can't be arrested as he needs to be in Washington Square at 5, so he escapes. During his flit he has to assault a police officer, and when he finds himself cornered, he calls Tyrese, a drug dealer whose son Beck saved from dying, so the man helps him escape.

Gandle and Wu are after him because they know that his aim is Washington Square, so they are there, waiting for him. They had someone following Beck to the internet cafe so that is the reason they know. And from what they say, they expect to get Beck and 'her' alive to know what they know.

This is nerve-wracking. What a mess Beck is now in! I hope that in the end at least he could get reunited with his wife.
