El 19 de marzo y el 2 de mayo 2 - The End (Pages 15 - end)

 RATING: GOOD

SPOILERS!!!

I really loved this book, and the story between Gabriel and Inés is getting more and more interesting.

After Ines has to go with her cousins, Gabriel finds himself involved in the Tumult of Aranjuez, which results in the deposition of Godoy and subsequent arrest. The king abdicates in favour of his son, Fernando VII.

Gabriel returns to Madrid and remembers that the Requejos send an advertisement to the newspaper that Gabriel works for, wanting to hire a young man as a servant. So he goes to the house, and as they don't recognise him, they hire him. Soon Gabriel realises that the Requejos are terrible and they are very mean with money. In their shop they have an assistant, Juan de Dios, who is engaged to marry Restituta. It seems to be a marriage of convenience because don Mauro thinks that this is a right thing for his sister.

Gabriel learns from a conversation between Mauro and a friend, Lobo, that his plans is to marry Ines because he knows that she is the bastard daughter of a rich lady.

Ines lives in the house as a prisoner as she is never left alone, and when she says she will never marry Mauro, they lock her up until she agrees to marry Mauro.  Gabriel then makes his plans to release her. He talks to Juan de Dios about Ines, and he discovers that the assistant is in love with her, so Gabriel humours him as he thinks the man can help him. When the Requejos are out one day, Juan de Dios agrees to give him the key where Ines is locked, but his plan is thwarted when Lobo  catches them.

Mauro and Restituta discover that Gabriel and Ines aree in love, and Lobo remembers Gabriel from a previous episode, and he accuses him of supporting Godoy. Gabriel is locked in the basement. Don Mauro receives a note and have to leave Madrid.  Then Juan de Dios arrives at the basement. He tells Gabriel that he plans to flee with Ines, but he needs the money that Mauro has kept in his safe. Gabriel locks Juan de Dios and Restituta in the basement.

Inés and Gabriel go to the pension where Celestino is. They want to ask for Ines's real mother's help, so Gabriel leaves with a note for the woman. It is then when there is a rebellion against Napoleon's troops, and Gabriel finds himself involved in the fight. During the fight Gabriel find Juan de Dios and Lobo, and when they learn that there are problems near the pension, they go there. They discover that Ines and Celestino have been arrested.

Gabriel and Juan de Dios try to find Ines. Gabriel finds out that Ines and Celestino have been taken to the gate of the Principe Pio Orchard. To see them Gabriel causes his arrest, but he is unable to release Ines. Then Juan de Dios and Lobo appear, and they manage to take Ines with them. Gabriel and Celestino remain in prison, waiting for their execution.

I am really enjoying these episodes because even though I know a bit about that part of Spanish history, there is a lot I am discovering.
