The Man Who Died Twice 4 - The End (Pages 256 - end)

 RATING: VERY GOOD

SPOILERS!!!

I finished reading the book this morning, and it didn't disappoint, rather the opposite. It was a great read: funny, exciting, witty.

There is a turning point when the Thursday Murder Club get the CCTV from the station. Ibrahim watch the film with the help of Hendrick, Ron's grandchild. They spot a person opening the locker, but the problem is that this person was wearing a helmet, so it was not recognisable. The funny thing is that Hendrick spots that the person was wearing one of the friendship bracelets that Joyce has been giving to everyone. This means that the person is someone tehy know. Then Joyce returns to the station, and behind the receptionist there is a camera, and they manage to get the CCTV camera. And then they discover that teh person on the video is Siobham, Poppy's mother.

This discover makes them wonder if maybe Poppy was after the diamonds, even if maybe Poppy faked her death. After all, it was Siobham who identified the body. Then Elizabeth realises that the clue is in the mirror that Douglas left. This means that the locker they needed was the number but watched in a mirror. So they return to the station, and this time the locker opens without problems and there the bag with the diamonds is found.

After that, The Thursday Murder club comes up with a plan with the Lance, Sue, Chris and Donna to get all the baddies. They bring along Connie, Ron claiming that she would get a good chunk, and he makes her hire Ryan Bairn. The owner of the diamonds, Frank, are in teh country, intending to kill Lomax. During the encounter, Connie, the drug dealer, realises that this is not what she thought it was. The operation ends up with Lomax and Fank dead.

Then when Joyce and Elizabeth are travelling in the MI5 van, Elizabeth puts all the cards on the table, and she realises that Sue is the real killer. She was the only one who knew about the diamonds because she and Douglas were in cahoots, and Elizabeth guesses that she and Douglas were lovers. Yet, when she read his letter, saying that he still loved Elizabeth, he decided to get rid of him and get the diamonds. The problem was that she didn't know where they were, and that is why she kept tabs on Elizabeth because she was sure the old lady would find out the truth.

Sue has a gun and threatens the two women. She wants the diamonds, and they get to the home, where three men working for her are threatening Stephen and Bogdan. When they get there, Elizabeth says that the diamonds are at Joyce's, and Sue's thugs are told to go there with Bogdan. Bogdan kills them as they leave their guns behind not to cause any uproar. In the end, Sue is arrested, and the woman claiming to be Poppy's mother is another of Douglas's ex-wives, Sally.

At the end of the book Elizabeth sells the diamonds, and the proceeds go to a charity that helps those with dementia, which is a good thing. Joyce gets her dog and secretly gets a tattoo of a daisy, just to remember Poppy. Ibrahim finally leaves his self-imposed isolation when Joyce tells him something. I think what she tells him is about Ryan Bairn being arrested, and Ibrahim goes with her to get her dog. Chris and Patrice become even closer, and Chris travels to London to tell her how much he loves her, and Patrice is considering moving to Fairhaven. And now Donna seems to be interested in Bogdan. A very interesting pairing.

I really loved the book. I can't recommend it enough.
