Death At Whitewater Church 4 (Pages 142 - 218)

 SPOILERS!!!

One of Ben's clients, Eddie, who works in the local pub and has some outstanding legal issues, comes up with some information about Danny's death. Eddie is afraid to end up in prison, and he says that if he gives the police information, they can drop all charges. What he knows is that the day Danny died, he was walking in the area and saw two cars, and one of them was trying to drive the other car off the road. Then he heard a clash, and when he came to the turning, he saw that Danny's car has falled into the ditch and the police were there. Ben wants to know why he didn't say anything, and she realises that he had some drugs on him. Ben says that withholding information from the police is a crime, so she makes Ben talk to the guards. So now Danny's death is treated as murder.

The police have also identified the dead body. It is Stephen McFerry's, a young man who twenty years ago died in a car crash, but he was buried in a plot in the cemetery of the church. The judge orders an exhumation, and what they discover is an empty box, only with some of the clothes that the young man was buried in. This mystery is become more and more intriguing. Why did they move the body of Stephen McFerry and why? And why was Danny's DNA found in the pillow and the blanket? Did he move the body? If so, why?

Another surprise strikes the neighbours of the town. After six years missing Connor appears out of the blue. According to Molloy, he was in England and only returned when he heard about his brother's death.

Apart from the case, Ben is also worried about more personal matters and her past. After thinking about it, she decides to go to see her parents after two years. During that weekend she mentions the pathologist to her parents, and she realises that they are still going on and on about the same. From their discussion we get to learn that Ben's sister, Faye, died as a consequence of drugs. It seems that the man she hooked up with introduced her to drugs, and this man stood trial and was sentenced to ten years for manslaughter. Apparently, the pathologist said certains things that Ben's parents didn't approve, and they think that ten years is ridiculous. That is why they want Ben to talk to the pathologist and maybe have an appeal. Ben tries to talk her mother out of it and explain things, but it is an impossible mission. What Ben is afraid is that her parents learn something about her and her connection with Faye's death, which may result in losing her parents forever. I am curious to know what happened to Faye and what part Ben played in her death.
