Death At Whitewater Church - Facts

The events of this book take place in Inishowen, an area in Ireland. Inishowen is a peninsula in the north of County Donegal in Ireland. Inishowen is the largest peninsula on the island of Ireland.

Donegal is the county where the events take place. County Donegal is a county of Ireland in the province of Ulster and in the Northern and Western Region.

Malin is  where Ben lives. Malin is a village in County Donegal, situated 6 km north of Carndonagh. A further 13 km north further is Malin Head, the most northerly point of the island of Ireland.

Derry is quite close and is a nearby town. Derry, officially Londonderry, is the largest city in County Londonderry, the second-largest in Northern Ireland and the fifth-largest on the island of Ireland.

The Sadie, the boat which was sunk by the IRA, is based on the sinking of the Nellie M and the St Bedan in 1981 and 1982. The Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) carried out two bomb attacks against British coal ships in February 1981 and February 1982 at Lough Foyle, a large inlet between County Londonderry in Northern Ireland and County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. The IRA used hijacked pilot boats to board the ships. Both vessels were sunk, but their crews reached the coastline safely in lifeboats.
