The day after finding the body, Erika arrives at the station to discover that Wakefield has been released with charges. He is the brother of a big cheese in the police, and Erika is summoned by her boss, Melanie, and Commander Paul Marsh. They tell her that Wakefield has been found guilty of assaulting a police officer, but they forbid her to pursue the line that he may be the cat killer. Erika is angry that she is being thwarted. Yet, when she talks to the owner of the building where Vicky lived, Henrietta, the woman tells her that she is an artistic photographer and reveals that her work often involves taking creepy photographs of animals, including horse intestines or dead cats. She tells Erika that she gets them from a veterinary association and everything is above board. She has a freezer to keep the dead animals preserve, and then she asks Wakefield to dispose of them. That is why the man had the dad cats in the bin liner.
Erika also goes to talk to Vicky's boyfriend Shawn, an actor. He is shocked to discover that Vicky is dead, and keeps asking if they are sure it is Vicky. Shawn says that he and Vicky were not a couple any longer. He was at home all morning, and then he had to go to work. His alibi tallies with what she says.
After all day Isaac, the pathologist, rings her to say that the body is not Vicky as the results of the postmortem show that the woman had a operation in her spine and a Titanium rod inserted. This means that Vicky is not dead, but missing, and they have an unidentified dead body. The identity is soon discovered. Opposite Vicky's flat two Bulgarian sisters lived, and one of them, Maria, calls the police when she hasn't heard from her sister for twenty-four hours, and when tracking down her mobile with an app, she discovers that the mobile is in a landfill. Erika is certain that tthe dead woman is Sophia, Maria's sister.
And where is Vicky? Vicky is in Scotland, having found shelter with Cilla, her ex-teacher in the drama school. Vicky is terrified because she saw the body of Sophia and knew who had killed her. So she simply ran away. We know that there is someone who threatened her because her investigation for her true crime postcard discovered some uncomfortable truth for someone.
In London Erika goes to see Maria, who is reluctant to believe that her sister is dead. Then in the footage from the station that her men have been checking, they have discovered that Shawn, Vicky's ex-boyfriend, was caught in the film close to the time when Sophia was killed, and they also find Vicky there. When Shawn is brought for questioning, he admits that he went to the flat because he and Sophia had a sexual thing. He also explains that Sophia and Vicky were more than friends, and Vicky let Sophia use her flat when Sophia wanted to be with men or with her. Shawn says that he went to the flat for sex that day and found Sophia dead, and he just walked away because he got scared and feared that the police may think that he had killed her. Shawn shows Erika some text messages, which prove that he is telling the truth.
I am really curious about what Vicky discovered and who felt threatened by this amateurish investigative podcaster.
