Fatal Witness 3 (Pages 140 - 248)

 SPOILERS!!!

Thanks to CCTV and a phone call that Vicky made, Erika and her team locate Vicky in Scotland, and the local police are sent there. Arrangements are made for Vicky to return to London, and Erika and Peterson question her. What Vicky says is that she arrived at her place and realised that there was something in her sofa bed, and when she discovered Sofia's body, she panicked and ran away. Erika knows that there is something Vicky isn't saying, but she refuses to talk any more. So they take her to her sister Tess's, and agree to meet the next day.

When Vicky and Tess are left alone, the two sisters hug, but then Tess starts with her recriminations, and the argument becomes even physical. Jasper leaves in a huff, and Tess says that they're taking a break in their marriage. That is why Vicky can't sleep in the spare bedroom, so she has to sleep in the living room. At some point during the night VIcky hears some knocking from the back door, and thinking that it is Jasper, she opens the door. Yet, it isn't Jasper, but she knows this person, and before she knows what is happening, this man stabs and kills her. From Vicky's thoughts we understand that she had been wrong in her assumptions and fears.

When Erika comes to pick her up, nobody answers the door. Eventually Tess appears, and it is obvious that she has just woken up. Erika and Tess find Vicky dead in the kitchen. Erika calls her unit, and when they are helping Tess, Jasper appears in his car, but seeing the police, he flees, and Erika and Peterson go after him. They manage to catch him when he stupidly drives his car down some steep steps. One of the neighbours in the area tells them that he knows Jasper from prison. Erika discovers that Jasper was in prison for raping and assaulting two women. When Jasper is asked, he says that Tess didn't know the reason why he was incarcerated, and he insists that he didn't kill Vicky.

From Vicky's backpack Kate finds a USB stick, and when they insert it on the computer, there are few audio files in which Vicky talks about some attacks which took place in the drama school which she attended. The women came out unscathed as for some reason or other the assailant didn't manage to carry out the deed, and these women were all placed in a ground floor room, and their attacker came through a window after removing the bars. When Erica asks the welfare officer in the school, there is no record because these women were not students, but were there to audition for the school. The police have reports for two of them alone. In the school Erika and Peterson see Cilla and Ray, another teacher, arrive, and they are shocked to learn that Vicky is dead, and Cilla gets outraged when Erika asks her about her whereabouts. Peterson thinks that it is very suspicious that Cilla and Ray, who had just arrived at her house in Scotland the day before, travelled all the way to London the next day.

And Erika has run into her first boyfriend, Igor. He is the delivery guy who brings him her new bed and washing machine, and after a initial run´-in when Erika behaved rudely towards him, she is glad to see him after so many years, and she even asks him to stay for dinner. I wonder if this may be the beginning of some romance for Erica. I am really sorry that Peterson is now in a relationship with the mother of his son. I loved him for Erica.
