The Anniversary 2 (Pages 74 - 214)

 SPOILERS!!!

The journey to Land's End turns out to be quite eventful. First, Charlie and Chloe are driving there when there is a very slow tailback. In the car in front of them a child starts to gesticulate and makes faces at Charlie, and he playfully retaliates. Then the child turns behind and says something. Unexpectedly the child's father angrily marches towards Charlie's car and starts threatening Charlie and kicking and shaking the car. He and Chloe are scared and Charlie locks the car. When the man finally gives up, Chloe suffers a nervous breakdown and cries that she wants to go home. She is also furious because Charlie shouted at her. Charlie has to acquiesce and leaves a message on Lily's voicemail. However, the next day he thinks that they can still go, and manages to convince Chloe. Since the day before there has been coldness between them and even in Land's End they are not at ease. Chloe stays in bed most of the time, and I think that the pregnancy is playing havoc on her nerves and emotions.

Thomas also has a misadventure. When he is on his way to Land's End, he stops at a petrol station. There is a young man who seems to be going through a rough time, and when he asks Thomas if he could give him a lift, Thomas feels pity for him and agrees to take him in his car part of the way where he goes. However, his kindness is not appreciated and the young man produces a knife and steals Thomas's car and all his things. The only thing he manages to keep is his car, and he calls Aidan, who agrees to pick him up and they go to the police station to report the crime. Finally, they arrive at Land's End and everybody, especially Lily, is horrified about what happened to Thomas.

The reason why Lily has brought all her family together this weekend is because she has decided to sell Land's End, which is something that neither Poll nor Thomas will like. There are too many memories in the house, and I also feel that Lily should keep the house which has belonged to her parents and grandparents and has been the setting for many family moments.
