New Book - The Anniversary by Roisin Meaney (Pages 1 - 74)

 First Published: 2018

This is a novel about a family, and it is tolod from different points of view.

Lily is the principal in a school, and in April she and her family are spending a weekend in the holiday home near Galway she has inherited from her late mother. Lily is now separated as her husband Charlie left her out of the blue. Then six months later he surprised everyone by coming public with his girlfriend Chloe, who used to be his student at the musical college where he is a tutor. In reality, we know that Charlie left Lily for Chloe, who is only a year older that his own daughter. This weekend Charlie is also joining the family in Land's End, the holiday home, but Chloe has declined to join them.

Lily thought that Charlie's relationship with Chloe wouldn't last, but it has been five years. Now Lily is engaged to be married in a few months. Joe is her fiancé, but even though she has rebuilt her life, she is still sore.

Lily and Charlie have two grown-up children: Poll and Thomas. Poll is an artist which makes heads out of clay, and when she dared to show her work to the owner of a gallery, she met Aidan, the owner, who thought she had potential and agreed to have her heads in his gallery. After that, Poll and Aidan fell in love and now they live together. Yet, Poll has her demons and an inner voice keeps haunting her whenever she gets serious with a man. Poll loves Aidan, but her demons have started to nag her.

Thomas works in a café, and it seems that his colleague, Freda, is interested in hi. Yet, Arthur has a secret. He is in love with Chloe, his father's partner. He knows that it is insane, but he can't help it. From the first moment he met her he knows that he wants her. His father thinks that he accts all clumsy and shy around her because he doesn't like her, but the reality is quite different. Chloe knows, and she is clever and sly, and knows how to use this obvious devotion. His attitude is quite different to Poll's because she hates Chloe, and since she learnt about her father and Chloe the relationship with her father has changed for the worse, and she won't accept Chloe.

All of them are getting ready for that weekend at Land's End. Then Chloe changes her mind about not going to Land's End. What changed her mind was the fact that she has discovered that she is pregnant. Chloe has no intention of keeping the baby, so the next week she is travelling to England for an abortion, but as she doesn't want to be on her own before that, she decides to tell Charlie that she wants to join him in Land's End. Naturally Chloe has no intention to tell him about the pregnancy and his intention to have an abortion.

I am already hooked on the stories of these characters. That weekend is going to be explosive and I can't wait to find out what will happen.
