New Book - The Yacht Party - Lara Stone 1 - by Tasmina Perry (Pages 1 - 36)

 First Published: 2021

The prologue shows us a group of people on a yacht. There are three women enjoying cocktails, and two men, one older and the other young, are talking and shooting at clays.

Then the book takes us to London. Lara Stone has been working for a newspaper as a investigative journalist, and her newspaper has been sued for libel by Felix Tait, a tech tycoon. Lara wrote that he had been with a prostitute, but the man proved that what the newspaper published was false, so the newspaper lost the lawsuit. The chairman of the Chronicle, the newspaper, is Nicholas Avery, who is also Lara's uncle, who has looked after her since her parents died in a yacht accident. After the hearing, Nicholas tells her that she needs to find some new occupation as he is going to get rid of the investigation department.

A few days later Lara meets her friend Sandrine at a bar in London. Sandrine and Lara have been friends since they met at university, and now Sandrine works in Paris. The reason why she is in Paris is for a conference from the Caché, an investigative corporation, whose founder Eduardo Ortega, seems to be in a relationship with Sandrine. As they talk, Sandrine tells Lara that she should join the cache, and Lara tells her that she will think about it.

That night Lara receives a phone call from the police. DS Rob Monaghan tells her that hers is the last call Sandrine made, and he tells her that they have found her body. Lara rushes to the place, and there she is told that Lara jumped from the balcony. One of the policement Lara has befriended over the years because of her job, CI Ian Fox, is there, and Lara tells him that she can't believe that Sandrine is dead when just hours before she was with her, laughing and making jokes.

I imagine that Sandrine has been killed because she was investigating something that may have caused problems for someone.

The beginning of the book has already grabbed my attention. I wonder what Lara is going to find out now.
