This is a book by Jane Austen which I have never read.
The author introduces the circumstances why three sisters fall out for some years. Maria marries Sir Thomas Bertram, owner of Mansfield Park, and her sister is wed to Reverend Thomas Norris. The vicar does not have much money, but Lord Bertram gives him a parsonage. Then the third sister marries Mr Price, someone with no fortune, and this is the fact that makes the two other sisters turn against her.
Eleven years later Mrs Price reaches out for her two other sisters. Mrs Price has eight children and has money problems. Mrs Norris thinks that what they can do for their sister is to take one of the children in, and they decide it should be a girl. Yet, she backs out, saying that she can't possibly look after the child, so the girl will go to the Bertrams.
Fanny Price is ten when she takes the train to Mansfield Park in the company of her aunt, Mrs Norris. The girl misses her family, especially her brother William. In Mansfield Park she feels like a stranger, and she doesn't get on with her cousins, Julia and Maria, who consider her an ignorant because her education is patchy. The only one who helps her settle is Edmund, her cousin, who talks to her. Fanny reveals how much she misses William, and thanks to Edmund, she gets pen and paper to write to him, and that makes her feel better.
I am enjoying the book, and I am curious to know what will happen to Fanny.
