Sal Kilkenny is a private detective who mainly takes cases of women suspecting their husbands of unfaithfulness.
The job is quite irregular, and Sal has problems making ends meet. He also has a four-year-old daughter, Maddie.
One day he geets a call from a woman who has references about him from a previous client. The woman, Mrs Hobbs, wants to see him, and when she shows up, she tells him that her sixteen-year-old son, Martin, has been missing for one month. The police have not taken his disappearance seariously, and Mrs Hobbs is desperate.. Martin asks the usual questions, and Mrs Hobbs says that Martin didn't have any money, and he was a loner. The woman pays Martin a thousand pounds, more money than he has seen in months, so he tells himself that he needs to take this case seriously.
