The 7th Canon 5 - The End (Pages 208 - end)

 RATING: GOOD

SPOILERS!!!

I have to say that the I enjoyed the book but the last part of the novel was too long for my taste.

The lead that takes Peter and Frank to discover the truth is a case of blackmail. Andrew Bennet blackmailed a rich man, Jack Devine, after he had relations with him. Frank and Peter go to see the man who has moved out of the city, and Jack unwillingly tells them that in his line of business (hospitality) he often got drunk and high, so he does not deny that he got carried away with Andrew. Andrew took him to a room next to some video store, and he videoed him and then tried to blackmail him.

Peter and Frank go to the video store, and the owner Joe takes them to the place, and he explains that he rents the place and asks no questions. This lead takes Peter and Frank to discover that there are two more dead boys, and Conor was the investigator.

Peter alone tries to find some clue in Conor's house to catch him. When Conor returns and catches him red-handed, he threatens him and makes him drive to an old warehouse where he intends to kill him. Both men fight and a doberman attacks Conor. Peter manages to phone his wife before he passes out, and Frank finds him, but Conor is nowhere to be found.

Conor reappears when Peter is discharged from hospital. With the evidence Father Thomas is released. Peter then finds Conor threatening his wife and his son; he is injured but he has his gun with him. And then Danny Simeon who has been staying with them manages to disarm him, and he reaches for him to kill him but Peter stops him. Conor dies of bleeding from his injuries, anyway.

I liked most of the book, but I found the last part too slow and fantastic.
