The 7th Canon 2 (Pages 48 - 105)

SPOILERS!!!

Peter has to take over from his uncle who is still recovering. The archbishop asks him to talk to the General attorney and his assistant, Linda St Clair. During the interview Ramsay and St Clair explain to Peter that there is evidence that Father Thomas is a pedophile as some photographs were found in his office as well as a paper knife covered in blood. From the conversation Peter has the impression that Ramsay wants a deal even though he does not mention that. After the interview, he mentions the fact to his secretary, Ruth Bell, and he also talks to Lou, and they both say that the District Attorney never offers a deal in a murder case.

The arraignment takes place on Christmas Eve, and the day before Peter called a friend of his, policeman Mike Harris, but he was away. That morning Harris surprises him by turning up when he was parking his car, and Harris tells him that he knows that there is a problem with the evidence as it was obtained without a warrant.

The arraignment is supposed to end with a request for a delay, and Peter tells the judge that his client won't enter a plea, but then Father Thomas says that he is not guilty. Peter explains that he does not have to say anything, but Father Thomas insists, and he says that he pleads not guilty. Then the judge asks to see the lawyers in his office, and he warns Ramsay and St Clairn not to talk to the press or make his court a show.

We also learn that Peter is still haunted by memories of his father. His father abused and beat him and his mother until he died. It seems that there is more to his death than meets the eye, and the only person who knows the details about his father's death is Mike Harris.
