New Book - The Jazz Files (Poppy Dale Investigates 1) by Fiona Veitch Smith (Pages 1 - 22)

First Published: September 17, 2015

The book starts on 5 November 1913.

A woman walks next to the railways and is waiting for her friend Gloria. From what she says we can tell that she is a suffragist who has been in prison and force-fed after refusing to eat. Then she sees Gloria, and the next thing we know a train hits Gloria and she is left on the tracks.

Then the novel jumps to 10 June 1920. Poppy Denby comes to London from Northumberland. Her aunt and her friend are supposed to be waiting for her, but there is nobody. She has a heavy trunk, and a man helps her to carry it. The man introduces himself as Daniel Rokeby, who is a photographer in a newspaper. When Poppy phones her aunt, the latter says that she thought she was coming the next day, and her aunt says that she should take a taxi and come home.

I have just started the book, but I have the hunch that I am going to enjoy the book.
