After a long wait the postmortem and DNA tests, it turns out that the skeleton is not Conor Devitt. So the police are now working on identifying this dead person. What they find is DNA belonging to Danny Devitt in the blanket which was wrapped around the skeleton. Danny is Conor's brother, and he is a drunkard and a loner, who went off the rails after his brother disappeared.
Danny goes to see Ben, eager to know the identity of the skeleton, and all Ben can tell him is that the police are working on it. Then that evening Danny crashes his car and dies. I don't know if his death was really an accident or something else. Ben thinks that it is wrong that Danny crashed his car on a easy, straight road.
We know that Ben has a secret, and that is why she is so nervous about the pathologist, who we now know is called Laura. This is the reason why she moved to this area. When Ben goes to the theatre with her friend, Maeve, she sees Sergeant Tom Molloy with the pathologist, and she feels jealous. Some moment happened between Ben and Tom on New Year's Eve. They almost kissed but the moment was interrupted by the phone ringing, and neither of them has mentioned the moment again. When Ben sees the pathologist, she remembers those days of the trial for her sister's manslaughter. Does this mean that Ben was accused of killing her sister, or was the trial about someone else?
