SPOILERS!!!
Frank Ross, a former policeman and private detective, usually works for Peter's uncle Lou, and he spent Christmas holidays away. When he returns, he learns about Lou being sick. Ross had started investigating the case of Father Thomas, and now he and Peter start working together.
What Peter finds strange is the fact that the district attorney, Ramsey, and the chief prosecutor, St Clair, have offered a plea bargain in which Father Thomas agrees to plead guilty and will get twenty-five years. Otherwise, the prosecution will demand the death penalty. Peter knows that the prosecution never offers a plea in cases of murder. Father Thomas refuses the plea, claiming that he is innocent, and he is ready to die if that is God's will.
Peter and Ross break into Father Thomas's shelter to find the records, but the file is nowhere to be found, and Peter thinks that someone must have taken it.
I am curious to find out who is behind this case, and why so many important people seem to be so nervous about the results.
