New Book - The Light In the Hallway by Amanda Prowse (Pages 1 - 31)

First Published: 2019

The novel starts in 1992 by introducing three best friends: Nick, Alex and Eric. They are ten and live in a small town in Yorkshire. They want their parents to buy them a bike, but none of the parents has money.

The book then moves to present day. Nick is going through a bad time as his wife, Kerry, was diagnosed with terminal cancer a few months ago, and she is in a hospice. Their son, Oliver, who is eighteen, feels unable to come to terms with what is happening to her mother. Nick begs him to come with him to the hospice as Kerry is going to die, but he refuses. That day Kerry dies with Nick holding her hand.

Nick is worried because Oliver refuses to talk about his mother, and it is only when he returns home after receiving his A-level results that he realises that his mum is dead and he breaks down. Nick tries to comfort him when Ollie cries that he should have been by Kerry's side to tell her he loves her, and Nick says that Kerry's last words were for him, saying that she loved him and knew he loved her too. It is a lie, but Nick feels it is something that will give his son some comfort. Now after getting the marks he needed in his A-levels he plans to go to Birmingham University, and Nick is afraid of the day he will go.

This is going to be an emoitonal read. I am curious to see what happens to Nick, and if Eric and Alex will appear in the novel too.
