New Book - Dying in the Wool - Kate Shackleton 1 - by Frances Brody (Pages 1 - 21)

First Published: 2009

It is April 1922.

Kate Shackleton is a thirty-one-year-old widow, who lost her doctor husband four years ago. His body was never found, and Kate has failed to find any witnesses of the circumstances of his death. During this time Kate has occasionally helped some people to find their missing relatives. Kate's father is a superintendent in the constabulary, and her sleuthing is not strange, given her father's profession. Kate is adopted; her parents adopted her when her mother couldn't get pregnant, but when she was seven, her mother fell pregnant and had Kate's twin brothers.
Now Kate receives a letter from Tabitha Braithwaite, who she met during the war when she was serving the VAD. Tabitha tells her that she is getting married in six weeks, and she wants her to help her find her missing father, Joshua, a mill owner, who disappeared in 1916. Tabitha is willing to pay Kate for her services. Kate thinks that it is going to be almost impossible to find a trail for Tabitha's father when he went missing six years ago, but she is willing to give it a go.
I think this is going to be an interesting read.
