 This is a series which features the detective writer, Josephine Tey, as the main character. Elizabeth MacKintosh (25 July 1896 – 13 February 1952), known by the pen name Josephine Tey, was a Scottish author. Her novel The Daughter of Time, a detective work investigating the death of the Princes in the Tower, was chosen by the Crime Writers' Association in 1990 as the greatest crime novel of all time.

 Tom starts a new job in the north of England, so his new home is in Kibblesworth. Kibblesworth is a village 3.2 km west of Birtley, Tyne and Wear, England. Kibblesworth was a mainly rural community until the development of the pit and brickworks and the resulting increase in population.

 The book starts in March 1808. Gabriel is working at the printing press of 'Diario de Madrid'. It was founded on February 1, 1758, so it is considered the newspaper in Spain. At first it was published under the name 'Newsworthy, Curious, Erudite, Commercial, Political and Economic Newspaper, and after changing the name to 'Diario de Madrid', it was published until May 1808 when Jose Bonaparte's government took control of the it. It was closed down on December 31, 1814.

Reading is the largest settlement and the county town.
