New Book - Keep the Home Fires Burning 1915 - War At Home 2 - by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles (Pages 1 - 19)

 First Published: 2015

It is December 1915 and the war has been going on for a while.

Jack Hunter is at Ypres, and he writes to his wife, Beth, about how his superiors were not happy when the British and the Germans got together for Christmas. He also mentions that on New Year's Eve they heard shots from the other side, and they realised that the Germans were celebrating the arrival of 1915, an hour earlier than their time as it was in Germany, and they did the same when it was twelve British time.

Diana and her mother visit the Wroughtons on Boxing Day, and Diana and Beatty feel out of their depth, especially as Charles is unable to attend his family's celebration.

Sadie is still working at the stables, preparing the horses for the war, and it is obvious that she and the vet, John Courcy, are becoming closer and closer. Even in her imaginary conversations with her dog, Nails, the dog tells her that she shouldn't get too spoony about him, and she is even surprised at her own thoughts.

I loved the first book of this series, so I'm sure I'm going to enjoy reading about the Hunter family again.
