SPOILERS!!!
Jane and Mr Bingley's sisters have become friendly, so they send her a note, inviting her to have dinner. Her mother is always finding ways to push Jane in Bingley's way, so guessing that it will rain, she tells her daughter to ride there on horseback. That way she will be asked to stay the night. The next day the family get a note from Jane, saying that she has a cold and is staying with the Bingley's for the time being. Mrs Bennet is delighted. Later that day Elizabeth decides to visit her and walks there. Jane has a fever and doesn't feel well, and Elizabeth is asked to stay with her.
It is clear that Caroline Bingley and her sister Louisa Hurst despise Elizabeth for her determination and coarser manners. We also learn that even though Jane is appreciated, they express clearly that she won't marry their brother, and Bingley seems to agree even though it is clear that he likes her terribly. Caroline Bingley tries to gain favour with Mr Darcy as she would like to marry him, but Darcy is starting to like Elizabeth, which Caroline notices and hates. Whenever Elizabeth is not in the room, the sisters abuse her.
After some days Jane is ready to go home, and even though her mother won't send the carriage until the following Tuesday, Jane and Lizzy are determined to go home, and Mr Bingley lets them use his carriage, so the sisters finally get home.
The youngest sisters, Kitty and Lydia, are portrayed in the book as silly, and both of them often go to the village because there is a military unit there, and they don't hide the fact that they are after Captain Carter and Colonel Forster.
After Jane and Lizzy get home, Mr Bennet receives the letter from William Collins, his cousin. Longbourne, the Bennets' home, is entailed, which means that the women can't inherit, and the property will go to Collins as Mr Bennet's male relative. Collins writes a letter to Mr Bennet, telling him that he is ordained, and he wants to make peace with him as his father and Mr Bennet fell out for some reason. It seems that he also wants to make things better for the girls about the entailed property.
