Missing Quail Crossings 2 (Pages 63 - 145)

SPOILERS!!!

I have to say that the addition of Ellie to the family has been a great idea. The girl is hard-working and determined to help whenever there is something to do. It seems that she has had some hard times and that is the reason why she won't talk. Alice heard her speak when she was having a nightmare, and Dobey thinks that they need to let her be for the time being. Everybody is pleased about Ellie. Yet, a character outside the family has voiced his opinion about sending Ellie away, either to a nursing home or a boarding school. It is the doctor, Dr Hushton.

Dr Hushton now comes to the farm regularly because James has suffered a mild stroke, so he checks on him. Dr Hushton thinks that James has taken ill because of the stress of looking after another person, that is, Ellie. I do not know why this man seems to have this interest in taking Ellie out of Quail Crossings. Thankfully, James is getting better, but he has no patience and wants to leave his bed rest.

Tiny is now pregnant, and his morning sickless leaves her totally worn out. Her parents have decided to leave for the town, and she misses them. Now she and Elmer are living in the house that belonged to the Clarks. Elmer also has his issues. During the war he was witness to the death of many of his fellow soldiers, including Thomas, a very young man. These experiences have affected him mentally, and twice he has had episodes in which he is mentally transported to the front. Bill and Elmer have talked, but he refuses to be forthcoming with his wife.

Evalyn has restored her house which was destroyed during the tornado with the help of James and the others. She is convinced that Robert is alive and will eventually come back, but the months succeed with no news. Gabe has been trying to find information in Europe, but the only he has found out is that he might have been in a war prison, but the records have not survived as the Nazis burnt them.
