SPOILERS!!!

It is summer 1881, and Annie starts feeling bored. Her baby is only a few months old, and now in summer she finds herself without much to do. When she talks to Tilly, the young maid, who has now moved to the boarding house and is sharing the room with Kathleen. Yet, Tilly expresses her concern to sleep alone in the room when Kathleen stays with a friend who has been the victim of a crime. Then Emmaline tells Annie that Tilly is afraid that a rat may be making its way inside the room through the ivy. Annie worries. Then the boys tell her that they could find out if there is reason to concern. Dandy is good at sniffing for things, and they do that. What they find is not a rat, but a cat with a littler of kittens. Annie and the others look after them, but they find friends to adopt them, and Annie is going to keep one as well.

This was a sweet story about the characters in this series.
