A Study in Scarlet 3 - The End (Pages 88 - end)

 RATING: GOOD

SPOILERS!!!

The narration about America ends with the reason why Jefferson killed these two men in London. The elders come to John, offering Drebber adn Stangerson as possible husbands for Lucy, and John refuses them. The men tell him that he has a month to reconsider.

John and Lucy hope that Jefferson will return, but days pass without any news. Then on the 28th day Jefferson turns up, and they plan their escape. They ride for days, fearful of being found. When food runs out, Jefferson leaves John and Lucy to go hunting. When he returns, he finds the lifeless body of John, and Lucy is nowhere to be found. Jefferson rides to the town and discovers that Lucy and Drebber are now married. Then she dies two months later.

After that, Jefferson swears revenge and pursues the two men, who had to leave the town. Then they decide to flee to Europe, and Jefferson follows them. It is in London where Jefferson kills them. This is what he explains to Sherlock, Watson, Lestrade and Gregson. The man says that he suffers from a serious condition, an aneurysm, and he could die any time. And he does die the night before he has to appear in court.

I really enjoyed the book.
