These are the characters for future reference:
Regular characters- Dr Watson is the narrator in the Sherlock Holmes adventures. Dr Watson was in the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers, and he was wounded during the Second Afghan War. In London he needed to find lodgings, and through an acquaintance he met Sherlock Holmes, and they share lodgings.
- Sherlock Holmes is a consultant detective. He has a wide knowledge of many subjects, which is required by his profession. He is intelligent, morose, and he loves playing the violin and is agood at singlestick.
- Young Stamford is one of Watson's acquaintances. It is through him that Watson meets Sherlock.
- Mr Lestrade is a detective of Scotland Yard.
- Tobias Gregson is another detective of Scotland Yard.
- Wiggins is a street urchin who leads a group that help Holmes in his enquiries.
Characters in this novel:
- Enoch J Drebber is the man who is found dead in a house off Brixton Road. When we discover the story behind his murder, we discover that he is a Mormon, and he forced Lucy Ferrier to marry him, and she was so miserable that she died two months after the wedding.
- Joseph Stangerson is Enoch Drebber's secretary. He was involved in the death of John Ferrier, and he was one of the mean who intended to marry Lucy. Stangerson was killed in his hotel in London.
- John Rance is the constable who found teh body of Enoch J Drebber.
- Madame Charpentier owns the boarding house where Drebber adn Stangerson were staying before their deaths.
- Arthur Charpentier is Madame Charpentier's son. When Drebber tries to kiss Alice, Arthur's sister, the man got angry and told him to leave.
- Alice Charpentier is Arthur's sister.
- Jefferson Hope is the murderer. He killed Drebber and Stangerson on revenge because he felt they had killed John, and his beloved Lucy.
- John Ferrier led a group of travellers but they all died. John thought he wouldn't survive, but a group of Mormons saved him and Lucy and in exchange he had to embrace the Mormon faith. When John and Lucy tried to escape to avoid Lucy marrying someone she didn't want, he was killed.
- Lucy Ferrier was John's adopted daughter. After they survived with the help of Mormons, John accepted her as his daughter. Lucy fell for Jefferson when she grew up, but her Mormon community wouldn't allow her to choose. Lucy and John tried to flee, but they were found. John was killed and Lucy was brought back to marry Drebber. Lucy died two months later.
