SPOILERS!!!
Jess arrives home and goes straight to the house where she grew up. Little by little we learn more about this family. When she was ten, her mother, Polly, took her to her mother, Nora, telling her that it was just for a little while. She had found a job in Brisbane. Jess spent the next summer there, and she understood that she had to return to her grandmother, and she expressed her wish to stay with her mother, but Polly told her that it was not possible. Nora excused her daughter, saying that Polly had always been nervous, anxious and incapable of facing life. Years later Jess wanted to know who her father was, and Polly just told her that she was a very kind man, and then Jess asked Nora, who said that Polly met this man, and she understood that he offered more than he intended, and he left without knowing that Jess was on her way.
In the house Jess sees all the photographs that her grandmother had on display and that is how the memories appear. She also sees a photograph of Nora with a young man, and when she was a child, she thought it was her grandfather, but it was her brother, Thomas, who went to England and never returned. Nora said to her granddaughter that her marriage was so brief to remember the man she married. Now that we have some details. We understand that Nora's brother, Thomas, is the man that Isabel Turner refers to in the prologue as her husband. That means that what she told Jess is a lie. Thomas lived in Australia for fourteen years before he and all the family died. I have the suspicion that the baby that was missing from the scene that Percy found is Polly, and Nora stole her. Does that mean that she killed the whole family?
Patrick, the nurse, tells Jess that Nora has been acting weirdly lately, talking about the past all the time. After she has slept, Jess goes to the hospital and is shocked to discover that her grandmother is in ICU because her heart is playing up. Nora looks frail and weak, and then she wakes up. Nora starts to get stressed, saying that Jess needs to help because he wants to take her away from her. When the heart monitor starts to beep, the doctor and nurses appear and try to control her. This episode proves to me that Nora stole the baby, but why?
