The members of the Thursday Murder Club return. In the last book Stephen, Elizabeth's husband, died, and she has been mourning his loss and hasn't been herself.
Joanna, Joyce's daughter, has got married. Her new husband is Paul, a university professor. During the reception of the wedding, the best man, Nick Silver, who is Paul's best friend, approaches Elizabeth. He tells her that someone has tried to kill him by putting a bomb under his car. Nick says that he and another friend, Holly, co-own a business in cold storage, which means storing data that can't be kept on computers for security reasons. Nick says that he and Holly own bitcoin, which now costs a fortune, so they decided to sell. So they contacted a banker, Lord Robert Townes, and a former criminal Davey Noakes. To access the bitcoin, he and Holly each has a code, and now these two men know about the code. After the conversation Elizabeth agrees to go and see him the next day.
The next day Elizabeth and Joyce take the bus to go and see Nick, but he is nowhere to be seen. What they see is a postit stuck on the radiator telling Elizabeth to help him. Elizabeth and the others arrange to meet Holly at Cooper's Chase, and Holly tells them more details about how they got to own so much money. When Holly leaves, there is an explosion, and the four elderly friends find that the car has been bombed and Holly has died.
Paul and Joanna are enjoying a short honeymoon, and then Paul gets some messages from Nick, but they realise that the texts don't come from Nick. Nick calls him Paolo, and when Paul asks him a question about a car he owned, the answer clearly shows that this is not Nick. Then Joanna and Paul decide to return home and help. From that point, the Thursday Murder Club start interviewing those two men who knew about the code and the bitcoin. Elizabeth also asks Paul questions because he also had some money in the business, but she has to stop because Joanna takes offence.
Ron's daughter, Suzi, is married to a criminal, Danny Lloyd, who also gives her beatings. When Suzi can't put up with that any longer, she uses one of his guns and asks him to leave. She threatens to tell her brother Jason, and Danny knows that it will be his death. So Danny leaves, and Suzi sends Kendrick with her brother. Jason and Kendrick don't tell Ron the real reason why Kendrick has come to stay with him. Now Danny is planning to kill Suzi and Jason, and he has hired a killer.
And Conny, the drug dealer, is now out of prison and is tutoring a young woman, Tia. Ibrahim continues to see her, but she hasn't told him that what she and Tia are planning is a heist because they want to rob the Rolex store.
I didn't have any doubts I would enjoy the book, and I'm really having such a good time reading these dear four characters again. And I'm intrigued about who is behind Holly's murder and Nick's abduction. I have even considered Paul as a supect, but he was with Joanna when Nick was kidnapped and Holly murdered, so it can't be him. Unless he paid someone.
