SPOILERS!!!
This last part of the book focuses on the friendship between Mathilda and Woodville. They meet when he rides near her cottage, and one day the horse throws him. Mathilda finds in Woodville a kindred spirit as he is someone who is fighting misery and is haunted by his demons.
Mathilda then thinks that the two of them have to die because there is nothing on this earth for them. When he visits her next, she tells him that they should embrace death together. Then Woodville gives her a beautiful defence of life even when everything seems hopeless. I really loved that text. It was breathtaking.
Mathilda decides to give up on her idea of death. Woodville has to leave because his mother is sick. Then Mathilda becomes sick and realises that she doesn't have long to live.
This was a beautiful book, written with delicacy and beautiful language.
