New Book - Her Sister's Bones - Detective Iris Locke 1 - by Geraldien Hogan (Pages 1 - 22)

 First Published: August 23, 2019

The novel starts in County Limerick in 1990.

Anna is a child who is totally smitten with her baby girl, who was born just a few days ago. Her father is away working, and her mother tells her to give the baby some space. Then her mother tells her to go and play with the neighbour, Ollie, even though Anna doesn't want to. When Anna is on her way to see her friend, he notices that the hood of her sister's pram is not the way her mother does it. She starts to run at the same time as her mother notices that something is wrong, and when they reach the pram, they see that the baby is not there.

The next chapter happens years later. DS Iris Locke was an undercover detective in a case in Dublin, but the case fell apart and she fell in disgrace. So she was transferred to Limerick where her duties werre mainly informative. Her hope was to find a position in the murder squad in Dublin, and then she is called, saying that there is a post in a murder squad but in Corbally, Limerick. This is where her father was the superintendent for years. Even though that is not what Iris wants, he has no other option but to accept.

Iris is now working for Inspector Colemen Grady, who alongside Ben Slattery, have a murder to investigate. They go to a cottage that has burnt down. They are told that the victims are a mother, Anna Crowe, and her two children, Martin and Baby Sylvie. The head of the fire department tells them that the fire seems to have started in two places, which seems to indicate that it was caused. And then the pathologist Professor Rafik Ahmed tells them that the three victims have shot wounds. So it is clear that it is murder.

Is the dead woman the child from the first chapter? This is an interesting start. Who stole the baby in 1990? And what about the murder? Who could kill a woman and two innocent children?
