Selina Bruce is to marry Rodney in a month, so she is trying on her wedding dress.
The wedding will be small as her grandmother died just recently. When after sorting out the wedding dress, Selina meets Rodney, we discover that Rodney is overbearing and tells her what to do. Rodney does not allow her to give her opinions, and I think that since he was the person dealing with her grandmother's matters, the marriage was concocted by her late grandmother.
When Rodney leaves, Selina goes to the park where she watches families. From her thoughts we understand that she was raised by her grandmother, but she alwasy missed the figure of her father. When she asked, she was told that he had died in the war in 1945, but nobody told her what his name was. Then one day when checking some books she found her father's photograph between the pages of Rebecca. As she sits on the bench, Selina unwraps the book that Rodney gave her as a present. It is a book by someone called George Dyer, and it is an account of his life in a Spanish town. Then when she sees the photograph of the author in the book jacket, she realises that this man is her father and he is not dead.
Interesting start. I wonder why Selina was lied to about her father.
