Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Facts

 

The novel is set in Glasgow. Glasgow is a port city on the River Clyde in Scotland's western Lowlands. It's famed for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture, a rich legacy of the city's 18th–20th-century prosperity due to trade and shipbuilding. 

Eleanor says taht the only thing that is really his is a congo cockatoo plant, which dies during those days of depression. 

When Eleanor goes to Keith's 40th birthday, she is dragged to the dance floor and dances YMCA. Y.M.C.A.is a song by American disco group Village People. The song remains popular and is played at many parties and sporting events around the world, with crowds joining in on the dance by spelling out the four letters of the song's title via arm movements. 

At the end of the book we discover that Eleanor was living in Maida Vale when the incident happened with her mother. Maida Vale  is an affluent residential district in Central London,  north of Paddington. It is part of the City of Westminster and is five kilometres northwest of Charing Cross. It has many late Victorian and Edwardian blocks of mansion flats.
