On the ship Josephine comes across Alma, Alfred Hitchcock's wife, who is travelling with her daughter and her mother. They talk about Rebecca, the film that Hitchcock is filming and about the actors. Then Josephine and Alma see a woman Lee Hessel, whose father has died, and she tells Alma that Hitchcock is to blame for her father's death.

The next chapter takes us to Milton Hall, where young Daphne du Maurier got the inspiration for Manderley. Three men who are part of the film are there, one is a cameraman, the other is the unit's directot, and the third James Bartholomew is the man who in 1917 gave Daphne the model to give someone. James now walks to one of the cottages in the estate to talk to Marion Plummer, who is the woman who frightened Daphne. We discover that the woman's son, Matthew, and James were in love, and Marion discovered them together, so she decided to have his daughter in an area of the house where James could not access. In those days James was an orderly, and Matthew had been wounded and had been blind, but he was recovering his sight gradually. What Matthew can't understand is why Matthew committed suicide if he was getting better, and he also asks the woman who told her about him and Matthew because she found them in an area where she never went. 

Interesting. I wonder what the mystery will be. Was Matthew's suicide a murder? Or will something happen on the ship?
