RATING: GOOD
SPOILERS!!!
The novel shows how Holly and Cassandra become closer because Holly is the only one who believes that Maya didn't try to kill herself. Cassandra is certain that Ash is guilty. The police reaches the conclusion that it was not suicide and they bring Ash in for questioning. They discover that his fingerprints are on the gun. Ash claims tha his mother alerted him about Maya, and he touched the gun. And his mother, Janet, is also questioned because her blood has been found too, and she says that when she was helping Hector, she scratched her hand.
Then Maya dies, and the case turns into a murder investigation. As Cassandra keeps insisting that Ash is the killer, and then Hecor goes to the police and confesses that he shot Maya, but he claims that he did it while sleepwalking, so he was not aware of what he was doing. The lawyer calls Cassandra to tell her that her father needs her for the bail, and at first, she refuses, but Daniel convinces her, and Hector is released on bail.
Holly talks to Dr Marsh, who has been chosen as an expert to examine Hector, and he tells Holly that Cassandra has had problems with her mental health and was even committed. That makes Holly think that maybe she can't trust Cassandra. Dr Marsh asks her if she wants to be an observant in the procedure to prove whether Hector was sleepwalking when he killed his wife.
Holly starts suspecting Daniel because he had a lot to lose, and she discovers that he was in the house when Maya was shot. Maya discovered that her cancer was back when he supposedly cured her. And she had decided to sell the farm when Daniel had plans to turn the place into a health resort. When Holly voices her suspicions, Cassandra still thinks that her father is covering for Ash. What she dreads is for Daniel to leave her. She discovers that Victoria's friend's mother, Monica, has been to the house, and she overheard him talking to her, and then she learns that he has been paying DAwn's school fees. When she decides to confront the woman, she tells her the truth. She trusted Daniel, believing that he would be able to treat her cancer, but he proved to be a charlatan. When she threatened to publish what he had done, he agreed to pay the fees for Dawn in exchange for her silence. When Cassandra learns the truth, she is happy and all she cares about is that Daniel loves her.
The sleep tests prove that Hector have no sleep disorder, and it is then that Hector says that he and the others were simply protecting Cassandra. She was the one who shot her mother but she was not awake. It is then that Holly's testimony is useful because as a girl her brother killed Cassandra, and she remembers that even when she was shot she didn't wake up.
During the trial the jury find her not guilty and she is acquitted. Yet, the novel gives us another surprise. Daniel confessed to Cassandra that he did shot Cassandra. He went to talk to her about the farm, and they argued. Daniel caught the gun and shot her. Then he made Hector, who was asleep in the living room, that Cassandra had shot Maya.
The book ends with Holly visiting the farm, which is now the health centre that Daniel wanted. Holly is now engaged to Leif, and she and Cassandra talk. Holly then says that she still thinks that Daniel was the culprit. Cassandra shows her that all she cares about is for Daniel to be with her, and the case was resolved and it can's be reopened. She is quite bitter about her mother, who she says had her committed, sent her daughter to boarding school and decided to sell the farm. Now she thinks that everything as it should be.
I really enjoyed the book, and I have to say that most of the characters were terrible.
