The Lies We Told - Facts

 When Maya and Rebecca's parents were killed, they were living in Annadale, Virginia. 

Now Maya lives with her husband in North Raleigh. Raleigh  is the capital city of the U.S. state of North Carolina and the seat of Wake County. It is the second-most populous city in North Carolina, after Charlotte.

Rebecca lives in Durham. Durham is a city in North Carolina. It's part of the Research Triangle Region, known for its technology companies and scholarly institutions. 

Rebecca works for a disaster relief organisation, and in the book two storms, Carmen and Erin, hit the area. 

Hurricane Erin was the longest-lived hurricane in the 2001 Atlantic hurricane season. The sixth tropical depression, fifth tropical storm, and first hurricane of the season, Erin developed from a tropical wave on September 1. Swells from Erin produced rip currents along the North Carolina coastline. Waves were expected to reach over 1.8 m in height. Officials at the National Hurricane Center cautioned authorities and residents to monitor the rough seas.

The disaster centre is in Wilmington.

At the end of the book Maya manage to get herself, Simmee and Baby Jack to a hospital in Fayetteville.
