Harbinder originally comes from Shoreham. Shoreham-by-Sea is a coastal town and port in the county of West Sussex.
Now she lives in London as she is working in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Metropolitan Police, in particular in the Homicide and Serious Crime Unit in West Kensington. West Kensington is a busy residential district that’s home to Olympia London, a massive events centre hosting festivals, conventions, and trade fairs. The title of the book 'Bleeding Heart Yard' is a courtyard in London, and there is a legend about it. Bleeding Heart Yard is a cobbled courtyard off Greville Street in the Holborn area.
Bleeding Heart Yard features in the Charles Dickens novel Little Dorrit as the home of the Plornish family.
The courtyard was best known for its appearance in R. H. Barham's The Ingoldsby Legends, a collection of poems and stories first published in 1837. In one of the stories, The House-Warming: A Legend Of Bleeding-Heart Yard, Lady Hatton, wife of Sir Christopher Hatton, makes a pact with the devil to secure wealth, position, and a mansion in Holborn. During the housewarming of the mansion, the devil dances with her, then tears out her heart, which is found, still beating, in the courtyard the next morning.
At first Harbinder learns that bleeding heart can also refer to a bleeding heart liberal, which refers to a person of left-wing or liberal views who is deemed to be excessively soft-hearted.
At the end of the book Harbinder is nicknamed Suzi after Suzi Quatro because she usually wears a leather jacket. Susan Kay Quatro is an American singer, bass guitarist, songwriter, and actress.
