Bleeding Heart Yard 3 - The End (Pages 146 - end)

RATING: GOOD

SPOILERS!!!

A new murder takes place. Henry's body is found in Bleeding Heart Yard. He has been stabbed and a cow's heart is left nearby. Harbinder is certain that Henry's murder is connected to Gary's.

Cassie goes to Harbinder to confess to the death of David Moore. She describes hearing an explosion, falling to her knees and DAvid disappearing. Harbinder thinks that her description does not make sense, and she tells her colleague that it does not make sense to open a case, which would do more harm than good.

Anna and Chris take the last step to be together, and that night Chris is arrested after Cassie remembers hearing Chris tell Gary that he would never forgive him for this. Chris is questioned but advised by his lawyer, he keeps saying 'no comment', so Chris is allowed to go.

Izzy appears and says that she feels that the key to the crime is David's death, so what they need to do is to reenact the situaion. She is certain Gary was killed because he knew who had killed David, and Henry may have known too. Anna is not sure about this idea and neither is Cassie, but Izzy persuades them.. Yet, Anna goes to tell Harbinder because she is afraid something terribly may happen.

The day of the reenactment Izzy tells Cassie to go to the disused station with Oliver, Izzy's husband, who will do the part of Henry, and Anna goes to the warehouse, which is being converted into luxurious apartments. Actually, Mette, Harbinder's flatmate, is the architect. When Anna turns up, she goes to the warehouse, and suddenly, she feels the cold steel of a gun behind her head and Anna stares with big eyes. The voice that sounds behind him is familiar, but she can't place it. Then when she turns round, she discovers Pete, Cassie's husband. Anna keeps asking him things, and the man confesses that he shot David Moore. Back then he was already in love with Cassie even though she did not even know he existed. The day of her last A-level he followed her and David, and when he tried to attack him, he shot him with a gun that belonged to his father which he always took with him. Then in the last reunion of the rugby team he overheard Gary saying that he knew David had been murdered and who had killed him. So during the reunion a week later he took one of Cassie's insulin syringes, and then he hit Gary in the head and injected the insulin. Henry also discovered him, and he had left a message to Cassie, so he texted back, pretending to be Cassie, and he arranged to meet him in Bleeding Hearts Court, which is a place where he knew Gary met his rich friends, and he killed him as well, and he took the cow heart that they feed their dog with.

Cassie pushes him and grabs Anna's hand and they start to run down the corridor with Pete hot on their heels. Then suddenly Pete is knocked down by someone riding a bicycle, and Harbinder handcuffs him. The person cycling down the corridor is Mette, the flatmate, and from the way she looks at Harbinder we know that she is interested in her. Harbinder is also keen on her.

Pete is arrested, and Cassie is informed. When she talks to him, she is outraged that he killed her two friends, and after the conversation she tells him that she won't see him again.

In the epilogue that takes place in October Harbinder and Mette go back to Shoreham to visit her friends and family. Mette and Harbinder are now a couple, and Mette is nervous to meet Harbinder's parents, brothers and friends, but everything goes well.

We also discover that Anna has decided to stay in England for a while and try to write a book. Chris is a powerful reason why she wants to try. Her mother has died, and she is staying with Chris for the time being. Cassie is now on compassionate leave, but she intends to return soon.

I loved the book. Harbinder is a detective that I like. My only qualm is that the ending was a bit far-fetched.
