Mr and Mrs Barker are travelling when their carriage has an accident, and Mr Barker gets his knee hurt.
As they are going through Willingden, they stop for help and Mr Heywood says that his daughters will take care of him, but there is no surgeon in the village. Mr Barker is surprised because that is the reason why they were travelling: to find the surgeon advertised in the paper. Mr Heywood tells him that he has made a mistake, and this is a different Willingden. Then Mr Barker says that they can resume their journey and he will recover at home in Sanditon. Yet, the carriage is not in fit condition, so they need to spend the day there.
