 RATING: VERY GOOD

SPOILERS!!!

Serrano calls Sonsoles and they agree to meet, and Serrano tells her that they need to stop seeing each other because the rumours about them are everywhere. Yet, a few days later he learns that Sonsoles is going to Paris to attend one of Balenciaga's fashion event, so he plans to surprise her. The Ritz is the usual accommodation for the high classes, so he goes there and surprises Sonsoles. They spend the night together, which they know will be their last one.

A few weeks after returning to Madrid, Sonsoles starts feeling tired and weak, and when she goes to the doctor, he tels her that she is pregnant. The news is not welcoming as Sonsoles knows that Francisco will know for sure that he is not the father. So she decides to call Serrano about the news, but he says that the baby could well be Francisco's. Sonsoles is hurt. When Francisco learns about the pregnancy, he tells her that he is aware that the baby is not his, but he won't abandon her and will love the baby as if it was his.

Sonsoles gives birth to a girl she calls Carmen. The news reach Carmen Polo, who demands Franco dismiss Serrano. Finally, Franco decides to change some me of his government, and one of the men is his brother-in-law, who decides to retake his career as a lawyer.

At the end of the book in 1999 Carmen Díaz tells the journalist how learning about who her real father was, and that broke her because she was in love with Serrano's son. We learn that Francisco was a good father to her, and when he died, Serrano started to call her and talk to her about her mother.

I enjoyed the book, especially as there is a lot of history
