As time goes by, Sam finds herself more and more involved in Elisabeth's family. The first thing that draws them closer is when Elisabeth invites her to dinner every Sunday so that Sam can watch a TV show that she can't in college. On those Sundays they talk, and Sam and Elisabeth have the impression that they are becoming friends.
Then when Sam babysits Gil in Andrew's parents' house, George tells her about his interest in the breaking economy in the country. Sam finds the subject fascinating, and she agrees to go to meetings of his group. When George takes her to the bakery where his group meet, she is surprised that there are only three more people. Sam suggests she could create a Facebook group, which the other members thank her for. Even though at times she finds the subject dull, she keeps going there and even takes part in demonstrations.
Now during the Christmas holiday Sam returns home to spend time with her family, and she will also travel to London to be with Clive for one week. Elisabeth starts missing Sam before she even leaves. Christmas has a surprise for Elisabeth. Her father is coming to celebrate with them, and he is bring along his girlfriend. As for her mother, she first tells her that she is going to Aspen, but then she changes her mind and decides to have dinner with Elisabeth and her family, and even though Elisabeth warns her that her father and his girlfriend are coming, her mother says that it is okay with her. Then Elisabeth emails her sister, telling her that she needs to come, but so far Charlotte has not replied.
