The trial starts, and things do not go well for Oliver and Dinah. Oliver notices that the minister Bawtry is there, and every time he tries to bring up Lanbourn's death, the judge stops him. Lanbourn's sister testifies that her brother turned to Zenia because his wife did not satisfy his odd tastes.
Oliver decides to confront Dinah and tells him that she has to tell her what she really knew. Dinah says that there was nothing untoward between Joel and Zenia, and they were just friends, and he felt his duty to help her as he and her husband were friends. Dinah says that she never went closer to Zania, and whoever was seen in hte area pretended to be her. Oliver then asks Monk to try to find out more about Zenia and her past.
Monk goes to find Runcorn, and they decide to try to find Zenia's marriage, but at first, they find nothing. Runcorn continues searaching the archies and Monk tries to talk to more people again. When Monk returns and meet Runcorn, the latter has bad news. He has found out who Zenia's husband was. Actually, Zenia was married to Joe Lambourn. That was five years before he started helping her. The shocking thing is that Joel never married to Dinah, which was what Oliver feels Dinah was hiding from him. When Monk talks to Joel's lawyer later, he discovers that his estate was considerable and he left everything to his two natural daughters.
Monk tells everything to Oliver, and this is another motive for Dinah to want Zenia dead. This is really a surprise. I am pretty sure that the person or people who killed Oliver must be Bawtry or the brother-in-law, Barclay.
