The murders take place on the Summer's Solstice. The summer solstice or estival solstice occurs when one of Earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun.
The remains of Amy are found in Sycamore Gap near Hadrian's Wall. Sycamore Gap is a dramatic dip in Hadrian's Wall in the Northumberland National Park. The Sycamore Gap tree was a 120-year-old sycamore tree next to Hadrian's Wall. It was illegally felled in 2023, but has since sprouted from the stump.
Hadrian's Wall is a former defensive fortification of the Roman province of Britannia, begun in AD 122 in the reign of the Emperor Hadrian. Running from Wallsend on the River Tyne in the east to Bowness-on-Solway in the west of what is now northern England, it was a stone wall with large ditches in front and behind, stretching across the whole width of the island.
Anna has a cottage in Durham where she works as a history professor. Durham is a city in northeast England, south of Newcastle upon Tyne.
