The Hotel Nantucket has been closed for decades, but now Xavier Darling, a billionaire from London, has bought it and had it refurbished and redecorated.
The person he hires as a general manager is Lisbet Keaton, who came to Nantucket for love. She and JJ O'Malley ran a restaurant on the island for years. They were the perfect couple until Lisbet found some intimate texts sent to Christine, who supplied wine to the restaurant.
Now Lisbet focused on her new life, and when she asked Xavier why he bought the Nantucket Hotel, he said that he wanted to impress one particular woman: Shelly Carpenter is a hotel critic who nobody has ever met, but her website and reviews are very popular, and Xavier's aim is to get a five-key review from Shelly, which is something she has never done.
Lisbet hires the staff of the hotel. Edith Robbins will be running the front desk. Magda English will be the housekeeper, and her nephew Zeke, who recently lost his mother, will be one of the bellmen alongside Adam and Raul Wasserman-Ramirez, a married couple. Alexandra Powell will also be at the front desk.
There are rumours that the hotel is haunted, and we discover that it is true. In 1922 Grace Hadley, a chambermaid, died in a fire. She was not only a chambermaid, but the mistress of the owner Jackson Benedict. Grace is the ghost that inhabits the hotel, and she wants people to know that she was murdered. Jack's wife, Dahlia, set fire to the hotel and locked her, so she died. Grace now follows Lisbet everywhere, and she has an opinion about everybody. The person she feels is not good is Alexandra Powell, and she thinks the new recruit will bring problems to Lisbet.
I already love the book. The introduction of Grace makes it intriguing and interesting.
