SPOILERS!!!
Rosa tells us of an event that happened years ago when she, her two sisters and father had guests for Christmas. There was an unexpected guest, Lady Speldhurst, who was her godmother. The problem is that there were no other rooms but the one in the tower. Rosa volunteered to sleep there and let Lady Speldhurst sleep in her own room.
The celebration was much fun, and Rosa felt overjoyed. Then people started telling horror stories which horrified Rosa, and then her father said that he had heard that some sheep had been slaughtered by an unknown killer, and the way they had been killed indicated that it was not a dog as their hearts had been taken out and left on the ground.
When it was time to go to bed, Lady Speldhurst offered her to sleep on the sofa of her room, and even her sisters told her to sleep in theirs, but Rosa refused. Then in the middle of the night there was a noise of chains and she saw a man who was no ghost. Rosa was so horrified that she couldn't even scream. The night was horrible, and then Rosa saw the horrible man laying on her bed. The maid came and when the man was about to attack them, Rosa told the maid to run. That night had a terrible effect on Rosa. Her face became haggard and pale, her hair got all white, and her youth went, and that is how she stayed for the rest of her life. Her fiancé Reginald left her, which is something she understannds completely, and he married someone else.
I have to say that I found this story a bit boring.
