SPOILERS!!!
The first clue leads Lily to her mother's old room, but she feels unable to step inside. That is why Tom is the one to go inside. The clues in the poem take him to a trunk where he finds the first key, and the key comes in a coat, which Lily recognises as the green coat her mother was wearing the day she died. When she examines the coat, she even sees blood stains, and she wonders why her aunt never had it cleaned. When the others join her and Tom, he tells them that he sorted out the first game even though it was Lily who solved the riddle because she doesn't want the others to know.
Lily appears unconfident and weak, and it is clear that her mother's death still affects her life. Trying to get away from her cousins, she walks around the garden and goes into the ice house, and when she is there, she hears steps outside and someone closing the door. She calls out to let her out but she is ignored. Thankfully, Tom turns up and opens the door for her. Later when she is with the others and she and Tom tell them about Lily being locked in, Gray says that he saw the door open and closed it, and since he was listening to music through his earbuds, he didn't hear her.
At dinner everybody is talking about Tom getting the key, and as he really doesn't want the house, he gives the key to Philippa. Sara is still disagreeable to everyone. When Lily has the chance, she leaves the dining room and goes outside. Philippa joins her outside, and she tells her that she knows she is pregnant. When she fainted earlier that day, she loosen the corset she was wearing and realises she had a bump. Philippa says that since she is having a baby, she could be the heir to the house, and Philippa and Ronnie can join them and run the hotel while Lily could use the space for her designs. Lily doesn't turn down her suggestion, and simply says that she will think about it.
The next day when they wake up, they find that someone has murdered Philippa. She is found on the staircase with a knife stuck in her back. Ronnie is devastated and won't let her alone. Lily says that they need to call the police, but the lines don't work after last night's snowstorm. Tom suggests they drive to the nearest station, and Lily and Mrs Castle volunteer to go with him, but the car gets stuck in the snow.
I wonder who killed Philippa and why. Maybe she was seen as a competitor for the house as she has the first key. But who? Sara is too obvious, but then who? Gray? Or maybe Tom? They are friendly but they may be hiding his real intentions. And is this death connected to Mariana's death twenty-five years ago? If so, who was the killer? All the cousins were too young, so it must have been someone else.
