The plot with Sherlock Holmes ends when he follows Moriarty to Switzerland. Holmes goes with him, and he leaves him near some waterfalls. Watson understands that he died, falling from the mountain when he was fighting Moriarty.
The plot of Cox and Rambalda is one of the twists. They find the girls, and when Cox is taking them in a carriage, Rambalda sends the police after him, accusing him of being the kidnapper. Cox is arrested and charged with the crime. It seems that Rambalda has betrayed him once again. We understand that in the past when they had a romance, Rambalda accused him to her father that he had raped her, and now she also uses him to get what she wanted and for some reason she gets rid of him this way.
I have to say that I found the book heavy going. There are too many characters and you never know if they are going to be important in the plot. And there are parts I didn't understand like the boy without arms that appears in the book.
